Video Influences
In this project there are many videos that have influenced me in my storyline. Here are a list of some.
Ashanti - Rain On Me
The video shows a story about a couple this is very similar to what i would like to show. I like the focus and slow motions they make the subjects stand out. The location where the couple live in is where i would like to have my characters in. I feel that the location gives space and makes the couple stand out. I would need to have space in my location as i want this same look.
Ashanti - Foolish
This video is similar to the one above but here the male does not abuse his women instead he makes a fool out of her. The way they have acted you can tell that the female really has feeling for her man. I like the parts where you cant here what they are saying but you can tell what is being said this is something i need to consider. The outcome to this video is that the female allows what is happening to her and gives in when he comes back home. This is not what i want to show as i want to show the female letting go. I like the way the video flows the storyine shows well.
Keyshia Cole - I Should Have Cheated
Her is a similar dilemma. In the end she gives in. Emotions and expressions play major part in reactions. I have noticed that the video has slow motion shots this takes the viewer in and makes htem focs on whats happening.

In this video location is very grand. It makes the video look interesting. The house is huge and gives the female space. Slow motion shots throughout i think makes the expressions stand out.

Final Major Project Idea Change
I have decided to do a video about a relationship that was great at the start but ended with the man abusing his women. This will be a short film as there will be many scenes. I am going to make a soundtrack to it and the music will be of an emotional feel. I will have a female poet or singer over the track talking you through what is happening in the video. I will need to collaborate with the poet/singer as the lyrics will reflect what is happing in the video. The actor i need, need to really have faceical expressions that show what is happening. The main Characters are one male and one female.

Short film – Letting Go – By Dalveer Sohal
Story line
The story consists of a relationship that was good at the start and ended with the partner abusing his woman. The video will show the good times and how it lead to the end. The story will show how the woman is emotionally upset about the situation and how she reminisces about the relationship. Overall the outcome of the video is to show the pain the woman feels and how she is trying to get over it with her realising her emotions and pain.
1. Opening Scene.
Female sat on a sofa with her head in her knees. She clearly is upset and is in an emotional state. You will be able to tell that she is thinking about things.
Camera angle – The camera will zoom slowly closer to the female that is sat on the sofa, the feel to it is that the atmosphere is peaceful but the female will show that there is a situation going on. The surroundings will make the subject (female) stand out. The way the camera pans closer to her will make it focus on what is going on and why she is sat in the way she is.
2. Flashback to the first date.
(A range of ideas could work with this scene, as there are many things that could go with a first date)
Ideas – Going to the cinema, or a meal.
Cut to the female at the first date location e.g. outside the cinema or restaurant.
Feelings - (Patiently waiting, nervous).
She checks her watch and looks around. He is late to meet her. They meet with him pecking her on the cheek. She smiles and they go in. cut to inside the restaurant or cinema. If in cinema he tries to put his arm around her, if in restaurant they toast and smile and gaze at each other, cut to them coming out of location hand in hand or he has his arm around her, you can clearly tell the date went well. He has walked her home they are outside her apartment they say good bye with a peak on the lips and a hug, she turns around walks in cut to her inside smiling, cut to him leaving grinning and looking back.
Camera angle – The camera cuts to show each stage of the first date, they won’t be fast but will merge together.
3. Flashback to them settled in the relationship
(Scenes of things that go in a relationship when they live with one another)
Ideas – They are sat on a sofa watching a movie cut to the male partner kissing the female on the neck, in this scene you can see that they are about to make love, this will be shown very subtle and not too graphic. Fade out you get the idea of what’s about to happen.
Camera angle – The camera will zoom from behind the sofa so you can see there backs and tell they are watching a movie, cut to the camera in front and a slow zoom to the subject matter a dark fade will be used.
4. The lead up to the first argument.
She comes out of a store you can tell she has been shopping she has bags in her hand. As she walks out she bumps into an old male friend they greet each other with a hug and you can tell they haven’t seen each other in ages and they catch up and have a conversation. As the conversation is going on the girls boyfriends mate is walking across the other side of the road and he notices his mates girlfriend talking to a man, he doesn’t no that its her old friend and as he is walking past he looks back and the girlfriend says bye to her mate and they hug again and peck on the cheek. The boyfriend’s friend that has seen this has a misconception of what’s going on and immediately calls his friend and tells him of his side of the story cut to the boyfriend on the other side of the phone of a reaction that shows he is shocked and angry.
Camera angle – As the girl comes out of the shop the camera will pan around her and the meeting with her mate, as the boyfriends friend walks past there will be a cut to him on the other side of the road with the camera following the walk across and in the back ground you can see the girlfriend and the mate talking. The camera will cut back to the meeting and show the girlfriend walking off and a cut to the boyfriends friend on the other side of the road on the phone this will be a close up of the conversation there will be a cut to the other side of the phone with the boyfriends reaction.

As she walks into her apartment the boyfriend immediately storms up to her and accuses her of what he has been told. You can see the argument take place and the boyfriend doesn’t let her speak or have a say he is over powering in the argument. As the argument finishes he walks out on her and leaves her she tries to grab and stop him but he pulls her off and slams the door shut cut to the girlfriend really shocked at what’s happened and falls onto the sofa and gets really upset, she nods her head at the situation and you can tell that she is baffled.
6. Back to her on the sofa reminiscing
As she is sat on the sofa she will turn her head and you can see that she crying tears will be rolling down her face and she’s looking really upset. Her emotions will show thoughts of confusion and disbelief of what’s happened. She just can’t believe her situation and she nods her head.
Camera angle – The camera will focus on her face and will show emotions in her mind.
7. Celebrating their anniversary over a meal she has cooked.
This scene will show that the female has just cooked and settled down a meal for their anniversary. She is dressed up in a dress and looks like she has made an effort. She has her phone in her shoulder and is trying to call her boyfriend to tell him to come home she has bought him a gift and is going to surprise him with a cooked meal which looks romantic. She does not get a answer and sits across the table with the other side empty, she puts her head down into her hands and waits and finally ages later he comes home and has totally forgot about the anniversary and is drunk. She has a right to argue with him and he ignores her and the argument leads to the bedroom where she is in his face angry he gets angry himself and pushes her against the wall with full power, she bangs her head and he shouts at her and leaves again out the door. She is alone in the house and breaks down crying again she calls him over and over again but he ignores her.
Camera angle – The camera will move with the movements while she is on the phone and setting the table cut to her sat across the table-waiting cut to him walking in cut to her arguing with him. The camera follows them to the bedroom and focuses on the argument getting heated. Cut to the push against the wall, cut to him walking out. Cut to her calling him.
8. He tries to make up with her
He comes in late the same night and she is sleeping he has flowers in his hand and turns her over and apologies she tries to ignore him and pushes him off but resists and they hug on the bed. All that has happened has been forgotten about.
Camera angle – The camera will show her lying on her side with him coming him the room in the back you can see he has flowers in his hands. Cut to him trying to apologise cut to them hugging and her accepting the apology.
9. They are back to there normal selves. E.g. out shopping together
They are in a store and he is buying things for her she’s browsing and they walk out together with his arm over her and they are smiling at on another they have loads of shopping bags.
Camera angle - shows them in full shopping in the one store and follows them out of the store.
10. She finds numbers.
He has just come back from work and she is in the kitchen cooking he comes up to her hugs her and she hugs him she takes his coat of and takes it to hook it up as she does this paper drops out of his pockets she picks it up and just out of interest looks at it and see’s that there is a telephone number saying “call me with a number and a kiss”. She looks at it and is shocked and goes back into the kitchen and asks him he denies anything and changes the argument and accuses her of going through his pockets. The argument gets heated up and he is in her face shouting at her and snatches the number back. She push’s him trying to get her point across he turns around with his first clinched as though he’s going to hit her. She backs down and looks afraid. He walks out on her again.
Camera Angle – Slow motions. Cuts showing all scenes.
11. He is out with his mate.
He is in a bar sat down having drinks with his mate. His mate walks off and says he’ll be back and when he comes back he has two girls in his arms and introduces them to him. They sit down together and the girlfriend is calling him he misses her calls deliberately and switches his phone off. Cut to the girlfriend calling him and getting frustrated as she carries on calling him. Cut back to the bar the girl’s mates walk in and notices the boyfriend with another girl on his lap they look shocked and call the girlfriend up. They tell her and she starts crying and getting angry. She starts to put her coat on. Cut to the girlfriend turning up at the bar and looks at her boyfriend he has no reaction in his face and looks back at her with the girl still sat there. She walks off nodding her head clearly looking upset then he pushes the other girl off his lap and tries to grab his girlfriend and as she pushes him off he stops and lets her go and looks not bothered and goes back inside the bar.
12. He comes home and hits her.
He comes in the house storming and shouting at her. She shouts back. She is packing his clothes for him to leave but he doesn’t and they carry on arguing.
He pushes her, pulls his first up and hits her. He throws her around the room. And leaves her in the bedroom to cry.
Camera Angle – The camera will focus on him hitting her these will be of fast cuts that make the situation look real.
13. Back to her on the sofa crying. Final Scene.
She is crying and is looking at some pictures of them two sitting in the park, (Couple pictures). Cut to her looking in the mirror at her bruises, Cut to her on the floor crying. Cut to flash backs of all the upset she has been through. Cut to her getting up off the sofa and picking up bags with his stuff in and leaving them outside her door. Cut To him walking up to the door and finding his stuff and shouting and banging on the door for it to open she doesn’t open. And he finally leaves cursing her as he does so. Cut back to her with the pictures and throwing them in the bin. She walks to the window and looks outside wiping her tears and finally letting go.
Camera angle – These scenes will be fast cuts and really choppy. She final cut when she is looking out the window will focus on her face and emotions and will prove that she has let go.
OUTCOME
The main thing I am trying to show is what a female has gone through in a relationship that was hard for her to get out of. I want this to be an emotional piece and also filled with expressions that show the story.

Final Major Project
I have just been briefed today about my final major project, as i want to go into music video production i will hopefully be directing and producing a music video. I have thought about it today and have thought that it will work well if i relate it to my dissertation - "how are women portrayed in music videos". So far in my dissertation i have been looking at music videos where the majority of the females are made to look like they are below the men. Women are mainly being portrayed as sex objects, made out to be worthless and needy of male company. This information has been gathered by my recent research into the portrayal of women in music videos. This information goes further in my dissertation.
In this day and age i feel women need to be seen equal to men and just as worthy and independent especially in the music video industry. During this brief i hope to work with an up and coming female artist/s, hopefully following the genre of RnB or hip hop. I choose to do this because personally i feel there is a chance to make the female presence become less of a sex symbol and more respectable.

Music Video Producer Hype Williams
This is a producer who's work i thoroughly enjoy, he has many talents from photography, to music videos and film production. He has worked with some of the most top rated hip hop artist to ever emerge such names like Nas, DMX, Missy Elliott and many more. The style and creativity and imagination that Hype williams brought to the table was a new type of method where he made full use of the fish eye lens and stylish outfits. From dream like to realist styles, all was possible and he pulled it off to a new level of heights. He started of as a graffiti artists with his tag "Hype", he then went on to making remarkable music videos. He has had some of the most amazing sets that i have ever seen, Lights, location and outfits are what stand out for me. Hype William's made full use of all the technologies that where available throughout his career.
These are just a selection of some of the ones that have influenced me.
2001 - Aaliyah R.I.P - Rock The Boat
In this video the location is shown at its fullest and Hype Williams has showed it off. Colors are kept to a minimal but the artist Aaliyah is shown to stand out from the rest of the crowd. The shots range from long angles to close ups and the way they are edited together work with fades. The natural availability's such as the sun light where used to advantage in the video. Hype Williams showed the amazing beauty of Aaliyah with the colorful outfits and makeup. I like the way sex appeal has been shown, this makes the video stand out and shows feminine beauty. The most amazing scene in this video is where Aaliyah is shot under water, it flows well with the music. Hype Williams has talent to show each artists personalities and pro-traded them in ways of there own style. This video has shown me that close up shots and long angle shots work together as well as minimal color. The Video is soft delicate and natural and expressed what Aaliyah was all about. Rest In Peace.

Music Videos That Influence For The Production Of Rothcore.
OCEANO - District Of Misery
This music video i think is very choppy i like the way it is put together and the way the music follows the editing. The blur that comes in and out go with the music as well, which makes the sounds stand out. The light looks like it is coming from above and this gives shadow to the musicians in the video, this makes them stand out. I also think it is very clever how there are flashes of contrast in the video, these last for split seconds and stand out. Most of all i have learnt in this music video the video follows along with the music as when the tempo slows down it shows it with wave like effects, and when it speeds up it gets very choppy. The music video is built up from simple location where the band are filmed playing and shots of props, such as cards being burnt, things hanging from the celling. The director has focused on the force of the sound almost like a weight, focusing on the instruments being played, the head banging, and all the props. The (card) props give a new scenes even though they are just close ups.
WINDS OF PLAGUE - The Impaler
This music video is full of light and contrast even though it still has a dark side to it. There looks like there are lights set up on the set to make the video stand out. echoey effects are added to the beat and the music the video almost bounces to the beat. There are about 4 scenes which show a lifestyle and when the music slows down the scene completely changes from being rough to being soft.I don't really like the change for me it doesn't work it is too different from the start of the video.
